If you don’t yet have a LinkedIn profile, you might want to get on that.
The company announced last week that it has reached 50 million users – no small feat for a “niche” social networking site that was once thought to be geared strictly toward white-collar professionals.
While the site is by no means the most popular kid on the social media playground (Facebook boasts 300 million users), LinkedIn’s exponential, worldwide growth is nothing short of incredible. The number of LinkedIn users has doubled in the last year, and the last million users were registered in only 12 days.
Like other social networking sites, LinkedIn means different things to different people. Recruiters often use it to scope out talent, and job seekers everywhere are beefing up their LinkedIn profiles, along with their resumes. It can be used as a sales or customer relationship management tool. Many perform informal research and seek referrals through the site, utilizing LinkedIn’s question and discussion features to gain feedback from targeted groups of professionals.
